Areas of Pedestrian Accident Expertise
Pedestrian law states that a pedestrian has the right, in the absence of a statute or ordinance to the contrary, to use and travel on any portion of a public road or street at any time of day or night
While crosswalks are designed to make streets safe for pedestrians, this just isn’t always the case. There are a number of different factors that can lead to pedestrian injuries and death.
Every year, thousands of pedestrians are injured or killed by vehicles, but that isn’t the only danger to people. Pedestrian construction site injuries can also occur in construction zones and in other special conditions.
The problem of pedestrian hit-and-runs is bigger than many people may have realized. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that the number of hit-and-runs that result in fatalities is up to 1,449 in 2011. That’s a 13 percent increase over previous years.
When most people get out of their vehicle in a parking lot, they don’t think twice about walking down the aisles and then heading toward a store. The problem is, though, drivers aren’t always so careful. There are actually quite a few pedestrian parking lot accidents that result in serious injury or even death.
Pedestrian sidewalk accidents can happen in two main scenarios. The first is when distracted drivers run off the road and drive up onto the sidewalk. The second is when pedestrians walking on a poorly maintained sidewalk trip and fall into oncoming traffic.
One common type of parking lot is the slip-and-fall accident. There are many different causes of this type of injury and it can lead to serious medical consequences. You could easily suffer injuries that even require hospitalization. At the very least, you will likely deal with bumps and bruises. At worst, you could face head trauma. Many people that slip and fall break bones like wrists, arms, legs, ankles, and hips. Broken bones are likely the most common injury reported from slips and falls.
