What to Look for with Nursing Home Injuries

Families always want the best for their loved ones, and this is certainly the case when it comes to their parents and other senior members of the clan. Parents who have to go into a nursing home go there so they can get the best possible care and the last thing they or other family members want to think about is the possibility that the nursing home does not have their best interests in mind. While most of the nursing homes in San Diego really do care about their patients and residents, that is not the case with all homes and workers.

Even when you put in the research and feel you are working with a high quality home, you can never be too careful. It’s important to know the signs of nursing home abuse and neglect, just so you can make sure your family members are as safe as possible. Some of the most common types of abuse and neglect that occur in these homes include financial abuse and theft, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and physical abuse. While you do not want to think about these things, you do need to be sure your senior family members are entirely safe.

Make sure you visit with them often, and always listen to what they have to say. If they don’t talk about any issues, that does not mean everything is fine. Look for some of the other telltale signs of abuse. Look for bruises and injuries on your loved one, as well as signs of neglect. Look for signs of malnutrition, as well. If you feel that there is a chance of abuse of any type, even a slim chance, you should contact Adult Protective Services or the police as soon as possible. You do not have to prove abuse if you are just making a report.
