There are a number of reasons people prefer riding motorcycles. Some enjoy the money they save on gas. Others simply get a kick out of the adrenaline rush that comes from riding such a vehicle. In San Diego, motorcycles are especially popular because you can ride them all year round and enjoy beautiful weather at the same time.
Unfortunately, motorcycles aren’t the safest option for transportation. Even if you are a perfectly responsible driver, you run the risk of someone else not seeing you or otherwise causing an accident. Without the safety measures associated with most vehicles, you could be in serious trouble.
One motorcyclist recently found out the hard way just how bad your injuries can be when traveling on two wheels. Although details are still forthcoming, we know the motorcyclist was riding down Pala Road when the accident occurred. It happened close to the intersection of Couser Canyon Road. The California Highway Patrol was alerted to it at 11:13 a.m.
We don’t know what the injuries entailed, but CHP did report that they were major. They were also so bad that the man reportedly had to be airlifted to the local hospital. However, there has been no word on his current status.
So while we don’t know if the man was actually responsible for the accident or if someone else caused it, it is fair to say that the incident makes the motorcyclist part of a disturbing trend. Over the last 15 years, motorcycle crashes have been steadily increasing throughout the country. Some of the most recent data out there shows that, in 2008, accidents involving cars hit an all time low. At the same time, though, those involving motorcyclists hit a new high since 1999.
So if you plan on riding a motorcycle, be sure you take every precaution to ensure your safety. It’s also a good idea to have the information for a qualified attorney handy in case an accident still happens.
